Lusaka Integrated Solid Waste Management Company (LISWMC) is inviting applications from suitably qualified, creative and self-driven candidates for the position of Legal Counsel (Company Secretary) on a fixed-term contract.

JOB PURPOSE
To provide legal advisory services, manage legal matters, compliance and risks, and provide Board secretariat services in order to safeguard the interests of the company.
REPORTS TO
Chief Executive Officer
MAIN DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Manage the provision of legal services and advise management and the Board on the legal implications of internal policies.
• Provide timely secretariat services to the Board.
• Review and prepare contracts and other legal documents.
• Prosecute non-compliance cases and represent the company in litigation matters.
• Monitor and evaluate compliance with compulsory standards and recommend interventions.
• Conduct legal risk assessments.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly legal reports.
• Coordinate the archiving of contracts, agreements, judgments, memoranda of understanding and other legal documents.
• Obtain legal opinions from the Ministry of Justice on important issues of law.
REQUIREMENTS
• Full Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent.
• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree or equivalent.
• Advocate of the High Court of Zambia.
• Member of the Law Association of Zambia with a current practising certificate.
• At least eight years of work experience, four of which must be at management level.
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
• Knowledge of corporate governance, law and litigation practice.
• Knowledge of litigation procedures, judicial processes and rules of evidence.
• Strong drafting, analytical and attention-to-detail skills.
• High integrity, confidentiality and sound professional judgment.
• Ability to manage competing legal, compliance and enforcement priorities.
• Good report-writing and stakeholder communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, including urgent court matters.
• Computer literacy and accurate legal record management.
• Tact and diplomacy.
