Responsibilities or duties
- Implements the planned maintenance programmes through supervision of artisans engaged in the repair, overhaul works and projects.
- Identifies and recommends engines, pumps, valves and other mechanical units for replacement.
- Prioritizes and allocates tasks, tools, protective clothing and materials to maintenance crews daily.
- Assesses material requirements including tools and protective equipment and spares to ensure effective and efficient maintenance and repair works.
- Installs, overhauls pumps, valves, motors and other mechanical units and modifies where necessary.
- Conducts work site inspections to ensure adherence to deadlines, safety and health and provides guidance as necessary.
- Undertakes weekly planned maintenance on pumps at the water and sewerage pump stations to reduce time due to breakdowns.
- Undertakes monthly preventive and vibration analysis on all duty pumps to confirm and ensure full functionality.
- Provides inputs in budget preparation by submitting the sectional budget figures and submits monthly funding requirements based on the approved budget.
- Supervises, trains, motivates, develops and disciplines subordinates. Monitors, reviews and agrees on performance of subordinates to ensure that they meet the agreed targets.
- Undertakes any other duties and projects as may be assigned to him by the supervisor
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Grade 12 School Certificate
- Bachelor’s Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
- Member of the EIZ
- A good understanding of the effective and efficient Maintenance Management System
- Ability to Plan for emergency stop-gap measures for equipment in case of abrupt equipment failures.
- Good maintenance Management software
- Proficiency in utilizing geographic information systems to map, manage, and update utility networks.
- Ability to drive a manual motor vehicle
Experience needed
Minimum 3 Years post qualification experience in similar role
