Assistant Engineer – Networks (1 Position)

Job description

Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited provides water and sanitation services in Chingola, Mufulira and Chililabombwe and is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Coordinate and supervise operation and maintenance activities on water-distribution networks in line with planned programmes and service-level guarantees.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Supervise effective operation and maintenance of water-distribution facilities.
• Implement planned maintenance schedules for the distribution network.
• Supervise engineering work arising from customer complaints and reported faults.
• Mobilise equipment and resources for network repair and maintenance.
• Maintain agreed daily water-supply hours.
• Supervise cleaning and high-pressure flushing of trunk mains.
• Supervise replacement of old network lines.
• Conduct walkover surveys from production centres to boundary/district meters to identify water losses.
• Ensure newly connected clients are added to the billing database.
• Install fire hydrants to improve firefighting capability.
• Contribute to divisional budgeting and monitor implementation.
• Review subordinate performance deliverables.
• Oversee reservoir desludging and housekeeping around reservoirs and distribution centres.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
• Grade 12 Certificate with five O-Level passes.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Water or Civil Engineering.
• Minimum three years’ post-qualification experience in a similar role.
• Member of EIZ.
• Ability to plan, organise, supervise and inspect staff working on water-distribution systems.
• Detailed knowledge of water-supply systems and treatment processes.
• Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, safety and health regulations for potable water.
• Ability to prepare and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Ability to drive a manual motor vehicle.
