JOB DESCRIPTION TELEMATICS PLATFORM MANAGER
Who We Are
MamaStops is a B2B cashless logistics platform for cross-border trucking across Cental, Southern and East Africa. It’s an all in one platform that manages fuel, tolls, border clearance, driver cash, and GPS tracking — so an operator moving goods across the region never has to worry about manually executing business consignments and trips.
Visibility is the spine of the platform. Every fuel hold, toll deduction, border clearance, and driver-money disbursement is tied to a truck on the move — and the truck is only as trustworthy as the GPS signal behind it. That signal is your responsibility.
Your Role
We are hiring a GPS / Telematics Platform Manager to own MamaStops’ entire telematics surface area end-to-end: our in-house Mamastops Fleet-Radar platform, plus the vendor services we operate today.
You will be the single accountable owner for whether information on the platform is accurate and conforms to the reality on the ground. This is a tech-lead + product / ops role, not a deep coding role.
You will set the roadmap, run vendor and customer relationships, hold SLAs and lead the team that ships and installs.
What You Will Own
Platform reliability
* Uptime, data freshness, and accuracy of GPS telemetry across platforms, reports.
* Define and hold SLAs for ping rate, position accuracy, alert latency, device online %, and incident response.
* Own the on-call rotation and incident review loop with the dev and field teams. Roadmap and delivery
* Set the Fleet-Radar product roadmap with the CTO — what we build in-house vs. what we manage & keep on third-party platforms and on what timeline.
* Translate customer and internal ops needs (dispatch, finance, border, fuel) into a prioritized backlog for the dev team.
* Deliver a stable, reliable Mamastops GPS platform that the rest of the business depends on.
Hardware and field operations
* Own the device lifecycle: GPS units, Fuel Sensors, Temperature Sensors, AI Cameras, E locks —sourcing, provisioning, installation, RMA, recovery.
* Coordinate with the Ops head and the field team: scheduling, QA, QC, regional coverage.
* Oversee reports from Ops about stock, serials, and device-to-vehicle assignment as a clean source of truth. Vendors and partners
* Primary relationship owner for tracking platforms, sensor distributors, AI Camera and E lock suppliers, and connectivity providers (SIM / APN).
* Negotiate commercials, manage contracts, and hold vendors to their SLAs. Customers and escalations
* Final escalation point for GPS-related customer issues across all three platforms.
* Partner with Sales, Ops, and Country Heads on customer onboarding, training, and retention from a telematics standpoint.
Team leadership
You’re a great fit if you have & are able to ;
* Lead, coach, and grow a team across two very different functions (software and field).
* Hire to fill gaps; performance-manage to standard; build a culture where field and dev talk to each other.
* 6+ years in telematics, fleet management, IoT, or logistics technology, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
* Degree in Computer Science, Comp TiA plus any other certifications are an added advantage.
* Hands-on experience with GPS hardware — ideally Teltonika or equivalent (Queclink, Concox, Ruptela) — including provisioning, configuration and field troubleshooting.
* Understanding telematics protocols (Codec8 / 8E or similar), MQTT / TCP ingestion and the basics of how a tracking backend is wired together. You do not need to write the Code, but you need to debug a conversation with the engineers and call out bad design.
* A Track record of owning SLAs and uptime on a production platform serving paying customers.
* Vendor management experience — contracts, commercials and holding suppliers accountable.
* Comfortable leading a mixed software-and-field team, with the operational rigor to run install scheduling, stock, and RMAs cleanly.
* Logistics, trucking, or cross-border transport industry exposure.
* Experience operating in multiple Southern / East African markets or running distributed field teams across borders.
* Familiarity with Fuel, Temperature sensor, AI dashcams and E-lock / smart-lock hardware.
* Exposure to AWS-hosted backend platforms (ECS, RDS / Postgres, CloudWatch) at the level of “I can read a dashboard and ask the right question.”
Location: Lusaka – Zambia / Mumbai, Nashik – India. On-site, with travel to customer sites and regional offices as needed. Reporting line: Head of Technology.
