Job description
Job Scope
The Concrete Mixer (Fury) Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the concrete mixer to ensure that materials are correctly mixed and delivered or discharged as required. The operator is also responsible for conducting daily equipment inspections, maintaining the mixer in good working condition and ensuring that all mixing and discharge activities are carried out safely.
Job Description
- Operate the concrete mixer safely and efficiently in accordance with manufacturer instructions and company procedures.
- Prepare and operate the mixer according to the required work specifications.
- Load the correct quantities of cement, sand, gravel, water and other approved materials as instructed.
- Monitor the mixing process to ensure the required consistency and quality of the mixture.
- Maintain the appropriate drum rotation during mixing and discharge.
- Safely manoeuvre and position the mixer at the designated loading and discharge areas.
- Follow instructions from the Site Supervisor or Foreman.
- Ensure the discharge area is safe and free from unnecessary personnel and obstructions.
- Control the discharge of the concrete/mixed material at the required rate and location.
- Communicate with banksmen, supervisors and other site personnel when manoeuvring or discharging material.
- Conduct a daily pre-start inspection of the mixer before operation.
- Check the drum, blades, hydraulic systems, controls, tyres, brakes and other components for defects or damage.
- Monitor the mixer during operation and report abnormal noises, leaks, faults or breakdowns immediately.
- Clean the mixer, drum and discharge equipment after use to prevent material from hardening and affecting future operations.
- Participate in routine maintenance, lubrication and basic servicing of the mixer.
- Complete daily equipment inspection sheets, logbooks and other required records.
- Ensure the mixer is parked and secured safely after use.
- Follow all health, safety and environmental procedures while operating, cleaning and maintaining the equipment.
- Wear the required PPE at all times.
- Ensure unauthorised persons do not operate or interfere with the equipment.
- Stop work and report any unsafe condition or equipment fault that may result in injury, damage or environmental harm.
- Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Must have a valid Driver’s Licence.
- Must have a Valid Concrete Mixer/Heavy Equipment Operator’s Permit or relevant certification.
- Minimum of 1 – 2 years’ proven experience operating concrete mixers or similar heavy equipment .
- Experience in loading, mixing and discharging concrete is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of concrete mixing and material handling.
- Knowledge of equipment inspection, cleaning and basic maintenance.
- Good understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively with supervisors and site personnel.
- Ability to work in outdoor, industrial and construction-related environments.
- Must be physically fit, responsible and safety-conscious.
- Must be mature, sober and alert while operating machinery.
