JOB PURPOSE:

The Business Manager has overall responsibility for all non-teaching aspects of the school including the efficient and effective operation of Finance, Site, HR and Compliance, IT, Catering and Legal matters.

This is a very broad and varied role with evolving priorities and responsibilities. The Business Manager will be expected to contribute to the SLT and Governor discussions on the wider school strategy and the medium to long term development of the school.

The Business Manager must ensure that policies, infrastructure and staff processes enable the provision of world class education for pupils, with a strong commitment to spiritual, character, and leadership development.

REMUNERATION:

Staff who work at Chengelo do so out of a sense of calling and are paid at good local Zambian rates; accommodation on site; discounted school fees; main meal during term time; local medical cover; transport home every two years; gratuity payment at the end of contract.

Chengelo has an excellent track record for training and development of its staff.

QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

A degree in a relevant field
Relevant professional qualifications, if applicable (e.g. in finance, human resources, estates management and/or business management/administration)
Experience in an appropriate senior management position in a business, commercial or educational environment
Budgetary expertise and financial understanding
Working knowledge of the law in connection to contracts, employment, planning and tax
Experience of successfully managing large and complex projects and working within complex organisations (desirable)
Experience with working with government agencies
Experience working in Zambia or within Africa
Experience with leading change management

PERSONAL QUALITIES

Sound judgement, resilience, a proactive and determined approach to a wide range of school issues, a keen commercial interest, a command of detail together with an appetite for long term planning and strategic thinking, as well as the ability to work closely and effectively with the Principal are all crucial qualities.
