Assistant Engineer – Maintenance (1 Position)

Job description

Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited provides water and sanitation services in Chingola, Mufulira and Chililabombwe and is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Implement planned maintenance programmes and carry out repair, overhaul and rehabilitation works under the maintenance-management system so that equipment and machinery remain operational for water and sewerage service delivery.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Implement maintenance programmes by supervising artisans engaged in repairs, overhauls and projects.
• Identify and recommend engines, pumps, valves and other mechanical units for replacement.
• Prioritise and allocate tasks, tools, protective clothing and materials to maintenance crews.
• Assess requirements for tools, PPE, materials and spares.
• Install and overhaul pumps, valves, motors and other mechanical units, modifying them where necessary.
• Inspect work sites for deadlines, safety and health compliance and provide guidance.
• Undertake weekly planned maintenance on pumps at water and sewerage pump stations.
• Conduct monthly preventive maintenance and vibration analysis on duty pumps.
• Contribute to budget preparation and monthly funding requirements.
• Supervise, train, motivate, develop and discipline subordinates; review their performance.
• Undertake other assigned duties and projects.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
• Grade 12 School Certificate.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum three years’ post-qualification experience in a similar role.
• Member of EIZ.
• Strong understanding of effective maintenance-management systems.
• Ability to plan emergency stop-gap measures for abrupt equipment failures.
• Knowledge of maintenance-management software.
• GIS proficiency for mapping, managing and updating utility networks.
• Ability to drive a manual motor vehicle.
