Lisaph Achievers Academy is a private school based in Chipata District of Eastern Province, Zambia, enrolling learners from Baby Class through to Grade 7. The school provides quality education and creates opportunities for the community it serves. The Role in Context

The School Head Teacher provides overall academic and administrative leadership of Lisaph Achievers Academy. The role carries responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning from Baby Class to Grade 7, for the discipline, welfare and safety of all learners, and for the day-to-day running of the school in line with Ministry of Education and Teaching Council of Zambia requirements.

The Head Teacher leads and supervises all teaching and support staff, sets and upholds professional and academic standards, and ensures that the school’s feeding programme, transport service and facilities operate safely and reliably in support of learning.

Working closely with the School Director, parents and the community, the Head Teacher drives learner achievement, protects the good name of the school and ensures that Lisaph Achievers Academy continues to create opportunities for the community it serves.

Key Responsibilities:

A.   Instructional Leadership & Curriculum Delivery

  • Lead the delivery of the approved Early Childhood and primary curriculum from Baby Class to Grade 7, in line with Ministry of Education syllabi and standards.
  • Prepare and monitor the school timetable and ensure schemes of work, lesson plans, records of work and progress records are of good quality and up to date.
  • Conduct regular lesson observations and classroom supervision, giving constructive feedback that improves teaching practice.
  • Oversee continuous assessment, end-of-term examinations, and Grade 7 national examination registration, preparation and administration.
  • Analyze learner performance data and put in place remedial and enrichment programmes so that every child grows, excels and achieves.

B.   Staff Leadership, Supervision & Development

  • Provide day-to-day leadership to all teaching and support staff, all of whom report directly to the Head Teacher.
  • Allocate teaching loads, class responsibilities and duty rosters fairly, and maintain accurate staff attendance and punctuality records.
  • Manage staff performance through target setting, appraisals and documented performance conversations.
  • Identify training needs and organize continuous professional development, including in-house workshops and Teaching Council of Zambia continuing professional development requirements.
  • Uphold professional conduct and discipline among staff in line with school policy, the Teachers’ Code of Ethics and Zambian labour law.

C.   Learner Welfare, Discipline & Safeguarding

  • Build a school culture that develops confident, disciplined and skilled learners, and recognizes effort and achievement.
  • Administer the learner code of conduct fairly and consistently, applying positive discipline and involving parents where necessary.
  • Safeguard learners at all times through child protection practice, first aid provision, health and hygiene standards, and safe, secure premises.
  • Oversee learner enrolment, registration, attendance monitoring, progression and transfer records from Baby Class to Grade 7.
  • Coordinate co-curricular activities such as sports, clubs, music and community service that build character, confidence and skills.

D.   Parent, Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with families through parent-teacher meetings, open days, progress reports and regular communication on each learner’s development.
  • Communicate school policies, the school calendar, and term and fee information clearly and promptly to parents and guardians.
  • Represent the school to the District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Chipata, Ministry of Education officials, the Teaching Council of Zambia and local leadership.
  • Strengthen community goodwill and identify opportunities to widen access to quality education within Chipata District.

E.   School Operations, Meals, Transport & Administration

  • Oversee the school feeding programme, including menu planning, nutrition, food safety and hygiene, and supervision of kitchen staff.
  • Manage school bus operations, including routes and timetables, pick-up and drop-off registers, learner supervision, driver conduct, roadworthiness, insurance and licensing.
  • Supervise the care and maintenance of classrooms, playgrounds, sanitation facilities, furniture and teaching and learning resources.
  • Maintain school records, registers and statutory returns, and prepare academic and statistical reports for the School Director and education authorities.
  • Support the School Director with budgeting, procurement of teaching and learning materials, and monitoring of school expenditure.
  • Take responsibility for the school’s financial position by ensuring that all school fees and other charges are billed, followed up and fully collected, that fee balances are monitored and reported to the School Director, and that payment of fees is enforced consistently and courteously in line with school policy, including engaging parents and guardians on arrears and safeguarding all funds received.
  • Ensure the school complies with the Education Act, Ministry of Education registration and inspection requirements, and Teaching Council of Zambia standards.

Qualifications and Skills Requirements

  • Diploma in Primary Education or Early Childhood Education from a recognized institution; a bachelor’s degree in education, Primary Education or Educational Administration and Management is an added advantage.
  • Valid registration and a current practicing certificate with the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) is mandatory.
  • Minimum of five (4) years’ primary school teaching experience, of which at least two (2) years must be in a leadership role such as Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher or Senior Teacher.
  • Sound working knowledge of the Zambian Early Childhood and primary curriculum, continuous assessment and Grade 7 national examination administration.
  •  Familiarity with the Education Act, Ministry of Education standards and guidelines, and the Teachers’ Code of Ethics.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, mentor and appraise teaching and support staff.
  • Strong administrative, record-keeping and report-writing skills, including school registers, statutory returns and academic reports.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel and email.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to engage parents and the local community; working knowledge of Chinyanja is an added advantage.
  • Commitment to child safeguarding, learner welfare, confidentiality and the school’s values of discipline, integrity and excellence.
  • Clean disciplinary record, valid police clearance and satisfactory professional references.

Time Commitment 

This is a full-time role based at the school in Chipata District. Working hours follow the school calendar and timetable, and the successful candidate must be willing to work beyond normal school hours for staff meetings, co-curricular activities, examinations, parent engagements and school events.

Reporting Lines 

This role reports directly to the School Director. All teaching staff and support staff, including kitchen, transport, cleaning and security personnel, report to the School Head Teacher.
