Background

Choppies Zambia is seeking a dedicated Fruit and Veg Assistant to join their team in Kaoma. This role is crucial for maintaining the quality and appeal of the fresh produce section, ensuring customer satisfaction and driving sales.

Responsibilities

  • To provide efficient, quality customer retention and service.
  • Set up attractive displays to encourage customer purchases.
  • Ensure all produce is correctly priced and labelled.
  • Conduct daily stock counts and report shortages.
  • Dispose of spoiled produce responsibly and record wastage.
  • Assist in receiving deliveries and verifying quality against supplier invoices.
  • Help prepare special displays for seasonal fruits and vegetables.
  • Provide information on storage, preparation, and nutritional value of produce.
  • Follow workplace safety rules when handling crates, knives, or cleaning equipment.
  • Maintain logs of stock rotation, cleaning schedules, and quality checks.
  • Support colleagues in other departments when needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Food handlers’ certification and food production certification.
  • 1–2 years of experience in fruit and vegetable production.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work at heights.
  • Candidates should be medically fit.

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to stay calm and focused.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Supervisory skills, including the ability to train employees to use time efficiently and maintain high standards of service delivery.

  • Physical Examination Required: Medical Report and Police Clearance.
