Background

Zambia Fruit Company Limited (ZFC) was incorporated in 2017 to serve as a holding company for IDC's interests in the agro-processing sector. As such, ZFC wholly owns Kalene Hills Fruit Company Limited ("KH') in Mwinilunga District and 70% of Eastern Tropical Fruits ("ETF) in katete District. The project sites are strategically located next to key raw material supply in each respective district.

KH and ETF are both fruit and vegetable processing companies, each with a processing capacity of 3-metric tonnes-per-hour. The two fruit companies will adopt a hybrid technology allowing a single processing line to switch and process a variety of fruits all year round as opposed to the traditional processing lines that are fruit specific, which are in turn constrained to seasonality. The proposed hybrid fruit processing projects will take in local agricultural products ranging from pineapples, mangoes, guavas, oranges, bananas, tomatoes, and groundnuts for purposes of value addition.

Mununshi Fruit Company Limited ("MFCL"), formally known as Mununshi Banana Estate is a 313-ha fruit estate in Mwense District, Luapula Province, Zambia, MFCL is wholly owned by IDC.
