Yalelo  is seeking an  Assistant Lake Operations Manager  to help develop and lead a dynamic team strategically focused on the delivery of lake operational activities including production, harvesting, lake logistics, cage construction and mooring. This role provides a unique opportunity to quickly develop a large-scale lake cage farming operation and implement best practices from inception.

Location:  The role is based at the Yalelo farm in Siavonga.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing lake operations and grow out employees including hiring, training, scheduling, motivating and evaluating performance.
  • Ensuring feeding, monitoring, counting, sampling, and upholding fish welfare for best growth results.
  • Supervising cage construction, mooring, net maintenance, lake logistics, fish transfer and harvesting operations.
  • Developing and managing the health, safety and environmental protocols within the grow out department.
  • Monitoring fish health, biomass
  • Ensuring KPIs are met by working to the overall plan, including management of, and reporting.
  • Conducting risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance.
  • Managing and leading a large team, ensuring adequate staffing levels, and daily supervision to maximise efficient productivity.
  • Motivating and coaching the team to operational success
  • Monitoring the completion of tasks and ensuring good performance and recording on appropriate systems
  • Ensuring that the department operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure that safety is treated as paramount and a safety culture is developed and inculcated amongst all team members
  • Working as part of the management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimise results and improve quality of delivery
  • Providing technical subject matter expertise to align outcomes with business needs.

 

The  Right-Fit  candidate:

  • Holds a BSc/BA in related sciences field
  • Has previous working experience in the aquaculture sector (cage farming preferably)
  • Possesses good written and spoken English language
  • Has marine boating experience
  • Can integrate and supervise large, diverse teams
  • Open water scuba diving experience (an added advantage)

Must be able to work regularly work weekends and non-standard (unsocial) hours.
